Macarenhas brothers:

Ajuricaba Mascarenhas:

About 22 years ago Ajuricaba Mascarenhas started training BJJ because his swimming teacher always told him ”you cannot be only a good swimmer, you need to know how to fight too” so every Tuesday and Thursday after training swimming he toke all his students to fight in the gym. It was really fighting, the teacher made 2 teams and started Vale Tudo fighting without any kind of protection. The teams fought like crazy, but after 10 minuts they stopped figthting and started training techniques at the floor and standing up.

The style was dominated by Jiu jitsu. The coach Alfredo Jacauna. He learned BJJ in 1977 by Reyson Gracie with his friend Luiz Facanha and after 4 years in 1981 they began training with Osvaldo Alves. They got so many techniques that they opened their own club. Ajuricaba started training with Luiz in a real Jiu Jitsu academy in1986 a chanfter 2 years heged academy for Humberto Barbosa where he stayed for 3 years.

At this point he was a purple belt. In 1991 he started training with Nonato Machado and after 2 years he got his brown belt. He began teaching in 1993 at Clube da Caixa after 3 more years Ajuricaba and his teacher Nonato Machado went to Rio de Janerio where Ajuricaba got his Black belt from Osvaldo Alves.

He met Andre Pederneiras in 1995 who he is still training with .

Iran Mascarenhas:

My brother asked me if I wanted to learn some positions. Because I always watched my brother fighting competitions, I agreed. Everything started in his room were we fought in the bed. But after 3 -4 times he told me that we should make a competition. I liked the idea, I knew some moves so I was confident that I could fight. But there was a problem, he told me that who ever was going to loose the competition needed to clean the Kimono of the other two brothers. You propberly know who always won! And I was cleaning the gi’s with my hands the next 3 hours because we didn’t have a machine.

Ajuricaba took me to his academy where I trained for 2 weeks in 1992. And the teacher asked me if I wanted to fight at a competition, I agreed. I won 1 fight but lost in the final. When my brother opened his own club in 1993 I and my brother Cristiano started training.

Persistents

In the 2 first years of training I never won a competition. I won some fights but I was never number 1. But the funny thing about that is I never gave up training, also because my brother told me that I had talent for BJJ.

In 1995 my brother paid the ticket for me so I could go and fight at the National Championship, because he had faith in me even though I never won a competition before.

The results

I won my first competition at that time, becoming the national champion in BJJ 1995 in blue belt. After that I won many different competitions.
